Command Fringe Festival.
As I detailed in my last blog post, my final show at drama school had to be made into an online cyber performance, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Myself and six other 2020 graduates from ‘Global Enhancers’ decided to take cyber performance further. Jumping straight in to this theatre form once lockdown started meant we have a clear idea of what cyber performance is, including the problems and celebrations involved.
Therefore we are now creating a Cyber Fringe Festival, which will be held from July 30 to August 2nd -- Command Fringe Festival. We are accepting applications for pieces of cyber performance, with the requirement that at least one element of the performance has to be live. As well as these performances, we are also hosting panels with industry professionals, where we discuss creating art in lockdown, reaching out to audiences during lockdown, and making political
theatre. Currently we about to hold our second panel: Get the Voice's Heard; Political Theatre Making. It has been very exciting to see industry professionals are getting on board and helping us 2020 graduates.
The past few weeks I have been creating Command Fringe Festival's website, which you can find here: www.commandfringefestival.co.uk or alternatively you can check our Instagram @cmdfringefestival. I’ve also been making lots of posters and promotional materials for the festival. I have really enjoyed taking on this creative design. I really enjoyed it and it’s something I’d like to get into in the future.
We are still seeking artists to get involved so if you have any ideas of cyber formants play you have already performed or someone you know might enjoy getting involved then please make sure to check out website. The deadline for submissions is the 17th of July at 6 pm. One of the wonderful things about this festival is that it’s very accessible in price and location, for example the people involved in the festival are all in different locations. I am actually in a different country to everybody else! So really what I’m trying to say is that anyone, anywhere, can get involved with this festival. It’s not restricted by location or by how much money you have to spend on the stage or travel or set. The online world is the set!
We also promoting the idea of charging for performances, because we feel that during lockdown, lots of artists are working for free. We think that it’s crucial that we are paid for art, so will be allowing shows to charge rate for their performances- even if it’s only £1! We are excited to see what we create and how we end up bringing lots of different communities together, all bounded by the same restrictions of lockdown.
